The week is over - no doubt about it. Our legs (mind and soul) need a little bit of rest, love and care.
Lipoedema Skin is very sensitive and needs a lot of extra care to be moisturized, smooth and healthy.
It is good to avoid using cosmetics which contain perfumes, parabens, aluminium, SLS or other inorganic ingredients.
You can pop into your kitchen and create your own homemade beauty treats
- 4 tablespoon coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon avocado
- 2 teaspoon Himalayan salt
- 1 tablespoon fresh grapefruit juice
- 2 tablespoon coconut oil
- 2 teaspoon coffee grounds (coffee waste) with cardamon
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
With Lipoedema, swelling may stretch the skin, causing pain and damaging the nerves. Pain and touch sensitivity typically decreases with compression and careful pump treatment.
A warm bath with Magnesium flakes, Epsom salst or Dead sea salts can relax your muscle, treat skin conditions and replace the body’s levels of magnesium. This mineral plays a critical role in brain function and mood as low levels of it are linked to an increased risk of depression.
Why not try a spot of bath aromatherapy for a truly relaxing and support of your skin condition? The muscles relax in warmth but also the pores of the skin open too.
Mix 20 ml of base oil with 5 to 10 drops of essential oils:
My favourite base oils are sweet almond and jojoba oil.
Sweet almond oil is light in texture, and can easily penetrate deep into the skin. Full of vitamins A and E - an extremely powerful antioxidant to keep your skin cells healthy.
Jojoba oil works as a protectant and cleanser. Apart from that is rich in vitamin E, B-complex, zinc, and copper and has anti-inflammatory and healing properties.
Grapefruit essential oil can help with your skin condition. It reduces oily skin, clears cellulite, helps reduce water retention in the body and energise your mood.
Spiritual Sandalwood oil can heal dry skin accompanied by inflammation and redness. It gets your skin bright and clean.
The lavender essential oil can calm you down and is beneficial in healing the burns and treating the scars.
What about the atmosphere during relaxation?
When I light the candles, I love the sound when the heat of the flame melts the wax near the wick. The light is so warm and my bathroom turns into a magical temple of silence, relaxation and blissful peace.
After such a wonderful bath, is time for some relaxing yoga, meditation, singing a mantra or time with your favourite book. Make a delicious tea with lavender or tulsi tea. Let the magical word envelop your senses.
My Lipoedema sisters, get your mind and mood into the spa zone. Turn on relaxing music, light a few small candles and enjoy your home spa day and let your legs love you for everything that you did for them :)
